Naked Lady Mug from "Choose Your Objectification" Series in Butterscotch
Slip cast ceramic sculpture made from found mold. Though the mold is a mug shape, this work is intended as a sculptural object and not meant for use as drinkware. (Works great as a planter or pencil cup, though!)
I found the mold at The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse in Oakland. It was a 2 part plaster mold. With each casting, the plaster degrades, showing rough spots - even air bubbles. The decline of the mold is captured in the castings and add character to each piece.
Part of the series Choose Your Own Objectification which highlighted how novelty objects often objectify as part of the novelty. Others works in this series included slip casts from a "Lucky Beer" bottle which has a depiction of Buddha on it. A tiki mug, a cup shaped like a geisha, and a glass made to look like a coca cola can.
