Your Suburban Pallet Is Blocking My View
steel, paint can lids, light
2013
This piece was included in the pop-up show JUST IGNORE ME, curated by Yoony Takeuchi.
The sculpture is a chain mesh chandelier made from household objects:
steel wire, and lids from paint cans. The mix of the two in this
"crafty" format explores the hierarchical ranking of skill and labor
when applied to the domestic setting. Its scale transforms the
chandelier from functional to grandiose: negating the purpose of the
space. It becomes an object ostentatiously exhibited instead of serving
as a living room lighting fixture.
